BUWAN NG WIKA, 2015
Annual celebration of Buwan ng Wika is one of the most awaited occasions in Cavite State University Main Campus. For this year, it was held yesterday, August 19.
Teachers and all students who still have their Filipino subject are the main participants of this program. Some of the conducted events were (1) Isahang pag-awit where students let the people to listen to their blessed voices. (2) Parada ng Lahi, where the participants expressed their creativity in making costumes and props for the representation of a certain region (3) Sayaw ng Lahi where the group representative of each region showed their groove and moves especially with the traditional dances in the Philippines and last but not the least (4) Lakan and Lakambini, where the contestants proved their wits, talents and beauty.
With this year’s celebration, each competition was successfully held once again. Even there was a short brown-out happened, it did not become a hindrance to continue the whole program. Because of the adjusted schedule, the last event (Lakan and Lakambini) started at 4:00 in the afternoon and the awarding was finished around 7PM.
Celebration of Buwan ng Wika is undeniably fun for all the students, teachers and even in the authorities of Cavite State University. At the same time, it could be the simplest way to preserve the Filipino’s culture.

However, because of CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) no. 20 series of 2013, the Filipino subject will no longer be a part of college curriculum starting on year 2016. They think that the newest secondary curriculum, K-12 would be enough to teach the students about the said subject.
As I have said earlier, students who have the Filipino subject were the main participants of this annual celebration of Buwan ng Wika. If this memorandum would finally be implemented, is the university still going to conduct this event?
I hope yes.
I hope that the upcoming college students would still experience the joy and fun of celebrating Buwan ng Wika. Just like the past years. Just like yesterday.
